As you may know from the local news, Operazione Mato Grosso’s ‘RiciclAnde’ reuse market in Vaiano was completely destroyed by fire.
We therefore organise an extraordinary collection of
- school material (except exercise books)
- wooden toys
These products will go to schools in the slums of Chimbote (a city about 420 km north of Lima), where OmG runs five schools.
How to contribute
Together with the Scout Prato Agesci Zone, we contribute to the collection of these items.
On the occasion of the activities planned for Saturday 8 March 2025, bring the items to our operational headquarters, located at the Polo Educativo Sant’Anna (formerly known as Oratorio Sant’Anna), and help us contribute to the initiatives of Operazione Mato Grosso, in support of the most needy populations in Latin America.
Operation Mato Grosso (OMG) is a volunteer movement that was founded in Italy in 1967 on the initiative of Father Ugo De Censi, a Salesian priest, with the aim of helping poor populations in Latin America, particularly in Peru, Brazil, Ecuador and Bolivia.
The movement is based on groups of young volunteers working for free in Italy (e.g. with manual, craft or agricultural work) to raise funds for development projects in poor areas of Latin America. The funds are used to build schools, hospitals, orphanages and vocational training centres, as well as to support local Catholic missions.
A distinctive aspect of OMG is the emphasis on free and selfless work as a form of practical help and personal growth. Many volunteers also choose to move to the missions for longer or shorter periods.
Although an initiative inspired by Christian values, OMG welcomes volunteers of all creeds, putting solidarity and commitment to those most in need at the centre.
